Employment
As at the end of 2007, the number of people employed in ORLEN Group totalled 22,927[1] people, including 4,748 people employed by PKN ORLEN, 5,002 people in Unipetrol Group, 104 people in ORLEN Deutschland AG, and 3,737 people in Mažeikių Nafta Group.

PKN ORLEN Employment Structure
In 2007, majority of all PKN ORLEN employees comprised employees 4,257 people with secondary and tertiary education. The remaining group were employees with vocational education (404 people) and primary education (87 people).

In 2007 the largest group of employees were 31–40 years of age.

Among all employees, women accounted for 22.74 percent and men for 77.26 percent.

Recruitment Policy in PKN ORLEN
As in previous years, in 2007 the recruitment policy was an integral and indispensable element of the human resources’ management process in PKN ORLEN. It was also an essential element of the Company’s strategy supporting actions carried out by business areas aimed at achieving strategic objectives.

With of the recruitment and selection processes conducted in 2007, modern methods and tools for diagnosis
were applied, which are cohesive and characterised by high reliability and accuracy of the assessment. The implementation of the recruitment policy in PKN ORLEN resulted in the acquisition of qualified personnel supporting the implementation of the business assumptions in the Company’s respective areas and in the maintenance of the highest standards.

In 2007, PKN ORLEN was twice awarded as an employer: it received the title of “Most wanted Employer
2007” by the Nationwide Employers’ Ranking, and, following the Universum Graduate Survey 2007, is entitled to name itself an “Ideal Employer”.

Trainee Programme and Student Apprenticeship
For the Company, apprenticeship programmes are one of the methods to recruit new employees. They enable the Company to carry out accurate assessment of competences and potential to obtain the best candidates for work, who possess skills essential from the business point of view.

In 2007, PKN ORLEN continued its cooperation with Employment Offi ces from all over the country in organising trainee programmes. From among 83 people who completed the trainee programme in 2007, 36 people were employed on the basis of employment contracts (mainly in the production area). In 2007, the graduate trainee programmes were commenced by another 67 people.

The Student Training Programme organised by PKN ORLEN in 2007 was of signifi cant interest for students
of higher education institutions from all over Poland. In 2007, in the framework of cooperation with higher education institutions, 312 people took part in the Student Training Programme in the Company’s business areas, both in the headquarters and in regional offi ces all over the country.

Assessment Center / Development Center (AC/DC)
In 2007, in the framework of the AC/DC methodology aimed at assessing the vocational potential of employees, 136 people, both recruited and promoted, were subject to assessment. Furthermore, in the framework of the implemented career path projects and succession programme, 225 employees selected by business areas were assessed. The competence diagnosis obtained provided a starting point for planning training activities, and development activities.

Since mid 2007, the Assessment Centre has constituted an integral part of the recruitment procedure for people managing PKN ORLEN fuel stations.


Management by Objectives (MBO)
By the end of 2007 the system of motivation through the use of MBO, addressed to the key employees of PKN ORLEN and its Capital Group, had been functioning for two and a half years. Its main goal is to support the strategy of increasing value of the Company. In 2007, the annual system covered a total of 550 employees, and approximately 350 persons were covered by the quarterly system.


Competency Development Programme
In 2007, the Competency Development Programme enabled the Company to continue the actions undertaken
as part of the vocational competency development, based on the Company’s values, and to identify competency gaps and plan development activities for the employees.

Talent Management
In 2007, PKN ORLEN continued the “Talent Management” project, whose objective is to prepare a mobile,
flexible reserve personnel with high potential, motivation and leadership skills.

The “Talent Management” programme enables the Company to optimally exploit the potential of talented
employees and to support desired directions of changes in the organisational culture of PKN ORLEN towards higher mobility and openness.

Business Academy
The goal of the 2nd edition of the Business Academy training programme, aimed at the managerial personnel
of PKN ORLEN and ORLEN Group companies, was to prepare employees for the challenges facing modern managers, unify the work standards of senior management and develop a strong corporate culture based on uniform principles and values. In 2007, a total of 210 employees of PKN ORLEN and ORLEN Group companies, including Unipetrol a.s., ORLEN Deutschland AG and AB Mažeikių Nafta, participated in the programme.

Training
The objective of the training policy in 2007 was to support business areas in the implementation of tasks and strategic objectives through the development of employee competences. Last year, a total of 6,397 employees took part in closed and open training, language courses, training aimed at raising qualifi cations, conferences and seminars.

Social Benefits
In 2007, approximately 30,600 people were provided with social benefi ts from the Company Social Benefit
Fund. In the framework of its social activity, PKN ORLEN provided the following benefi ts: co-fi nancing
of holidays and collective events, co-fi nancing of sports and recreational activities, preventive and rehabilitation treatment, non-repayable compassionate allowances and material allowances, housing loans and presents for children on special occasions.
