Germany has one of the largest and most mature retail fuel sales markets in Europe. As at December 31st 2013, ORLEN Deutschland GmbH operated 555 service stations (535 in the economy segment under the STAR brand, 19 service stations at supermarkets, and one ORLEN brand station in Hamburg).The company's major competitors include international networks Aral, Shell, Esso, Total and JET. ORLEN Deutschland GmbH's STAR brand is the second largest, after JET, in the economy segment in Germany. In 2013, the ORLEN Group maintained its position on the German retail market, with a 5.9% market share.

On the back of stable demand for fuels, ORLEN Deutschland GmbH's year-on-year sales improved 1.4%, to 3.2bn litres, with the growth driven primarily by higher sales of middle distillates.

The continued development of the STAR network, including in particular the launch of the company's own beverage brands, contributed to a 13% year-on-year increase in non-fuel revenue. An important factor supporting the network development and customer base growth was the introduction of the Star VISA payment card in cooperation with a German bank.
