Sales of petrochemicals

In 2013, the Group’s sales on the Czech market decreased 10.2% year on year in terms of volume, which was chiefly an effect of the decision to permanently discontinue fertilizer production at the Unipetrol Group as of the end of 2012, and of the stoppage at Spolana a.s. caused by the flood of June 2013.

The decline in volumes of monomers, polymers and aromatics sold was attributable to both supply and demand factors, related to emergency stoppages of our production units in Litvinov and lower consumption caused by stoppages at our main customers’ plants after the flood.

These limitations were partially offset by sales of plastics, which grew on the back of improved market conditions, as well as other products, in particular ammonia, whose sales went up after the artificial fertilizer production was discontinued.
