The total production of petrochemicals by Chemopetrol in 2007 totalled 2,377 thousands tonnes and was 268 thousand tonnes lower than in 2006. The decrease mainly resulted from the planned maintenance standstill of the installation in Unipetrol RPA in September and October 2007 and from the failure of the olefins unit in November and December 2007.

Plastics
The production of polyolefi ns in Chemopetrol in 2007 amounted to 454 thousand tonnes and was 8.8 percent lower than the volume generated in 2006. The decrease in the production volume resulted from the maintenance standstill of the production installation and also from the failure of the heat exchanger in the ethylene unit.

Investments
During the maintenance standstill planned for September and October 2007, Chemopetrol carried out a series of modernisation works on the production installations. The most important tasks included: intensification and modernisation of the Olefin Production Plant, implementation of the investment project in the Benzene Extractive Distillation installation, increase in polypropylene production to 275 thousand tonnes annually and the repair of the Cold box in the ethylene unit.
