Refining segment of the ORLEN Group

In 2007, the ORLEN Group refinery segment consisted of the refinery plant in Płock, the Litvinov, Kralupy and Paramo refinery plants (the Czech Republic), AB Mažeikių Nafta (Lithuania) and selected production assets of Rafineria Trzebinia SA, Rafineria Nafty Jedlicze SA as well as ORLEN Asfalt Sp. z o.o., ORLEN Eko Sp. z o.o. (Poland).


Crude Oil Processing

In 2007, ORLEN Group processed approximately 22.8 million tonnes of crude oil of which the highest volume was processed in Polish refinery plants (13.9 million tonnes). The refinery plants in the Czech Republic and Lithuania respectively processed approximately 4.1 million tonnes and 4.7 million tonnes [1] of crude oil in 2007. The production at all refinery plants in the Group was based on URAL and Brent blends. The remaining crude oil types processed by the refineries were, Brent, Gulfaks, Oseberg and Polish crude oil: Dębno and Zielonogórska.

Fuel Production

Fuel production [2] in all the 7 refinery plants of ORLEN Group in 2007 exceeded 15.3 million tonnes and was approximately 11.2 percent lower than production volumes in 2006. Petrol production in the report period declined by 12.5 percent and was below 5.1 million tonnes. The volume of diesel oils exceeded 8 million tonnes, which is an increase of 0.5 percent in comparison to production in 2006.

For the purpose of comparison of PKN ORLEN’s operational data for 2006–2007, data for 2006 include pro forma data from AB Mažeikių Nafta.


Bitumen Production

The total volume of bitumen produced in 2007 by ORLEN Group totalled over 921 thousand tonnes and was 6.2 percent lower than in the preceding year. The production of pitches and specific bitumen products in 2007 exceeded 24 thousand tonnes and was 36.1 percent lower than in 2006. In both cases, the negative result was caused by production problems in AB Mažeikių Nafta after the fire in the refinery plant at the end of  2006.
